Zhanjiang lays out industrial blueprint
The Layout and Planning of Zhanjiang Industries and Industrial Parks (2011-2015) points out that the strategy for future development will focus on the “five major industries” – steel, petrochemicals, paper, tourism and logistics industries; that the development of the “five new industries”, namely marine, energy resources, electronics, materials, and medicine, should not be neglected; that the development of the “five industries with local characteristics”, i.e. agriculture, home appliances, furniture, food and culture, should be given greater support.
The general industrial design guidelines of Zhanjiang can be interpreted as follows: applying the Scientific Outlook on Development, the transformation from an agricultural city to an industrial city should take centre stage. At the same time, the industrial development should have an overall plan. Specifically, it should focus on the implementation strategies of projects, industrial parks, inviting investments, and supporting industries. Also, attention should be paid to deepening development of three major industries, that is steel, petrochemicals, and paper industries. In addition, we must speed up the development of the “three leading industries” and the “five industrial clusters”. We should also spare no effort in making Zhanjiang a key port and a heavy chemical industry base in China, as well as a growth pole of the new-type of industrialization in Guangdong province. Additionally, it is crucial to follow a novel industrial development model with Zhanjiang characteristics, a model of environmental-friendliness and economic stimulation. Hopefully, thriving in these industries will lead to the rise of Zhanjiang over the next five years.
